What is the method?

The Novum Innovation Method is an approach for carrying out innovation projects. This approach provides structure, clarity and effectiveness.

This is an introductory and reference description of the Novum Innovation Method. It is intended for people who are interested in innovation or involved in an innovation project. This Method is used by the Novum Innovation Designers.

How do you use the Novum Innovation Method?

Each innovation project is supervised by an Innovation Designer who applies the Method using the work deck.

The work deck is a PowerPoint presentation that is created per project. It contains all phases, questions, a checklist and the canvases that can be used.

As you go through the phases, the various slides of the work deck are completed. In this way, the Novum Innovation Method is applied and progress and documentation are organized in one go.

Where does this Method come from?

The Novum Innovation Method arose from a combination of years of experience with innovation at the SVB and the theory and practice of Design Thinking and Lean Startup.

Design Thinking is a method to promote innovation in a creative way. This approach is distinguished by a strong focus on the customer (or end user) and the use of different prototypes. Design Thinking originated in the 1980s in Silicon Valley, supported by Stanford University and platform organization IDEO. Tim Brown is considered the inventor of Design Thinking and has further developed this approach.

Lean Startup is all about preventing waste: wasting time, energy and money on something that no one wants or uses. The Build, Measure, Learn feedback loop is the foundation of Lean Startup. Build something quickly, measure how customers respond to it, learn from it, make adjustments and measure how customers respond again. Lean Startup was introduced in 2008 by Eric Ries. Its success is partly due to his bestseller book “The Lean Startup” from 2011. This method is now used by startups worldwide.
