How can we innovate in the public domain?

Innovation is not yet firmly rooted in the DNA of the public domain. But in this day and age it is more necessary than ever to make and keep a connection. Novum wants to make an impact in the innovation landscape of the government and specifically the social domain and the SVB. Valuable innovations really land and can be further expanded in the social public domain. By mapping out the system of innovation within the social domain, a choice can be made as to which opportunities there are for Novum to have more impact. To identify opportunities and challenges that actually match Novum's mission, we started with Systems Thinking.

What was the purpose of this experiment?

Since we have mainly been looking for areas for improvement, this feedback has been written based on the identified challenges and opportunities. Of course there are also positive developments. Such as achieving a diversity quota in a very short time, the way how the Corona app was created and the intrinsic motivation of the respondents. You will not read much about this in this feedback, because we want to focus on the opportunities.

A number of things have been highlighted to activate the thinking process. In addition, we would like to share the conclusions from the sessions and possible follow-up steps to tackle it. Since many opportunities should not be picked up by Novum itself, but belong elsewhere. The final report is intended as a starting point. When one picks up a part, a deepening will have to take place. Sources are anonymous and formal sources are not referenced for readability.

The final report

The report describes the most important conclusions, which are characteristic, which influence or determine the way in which innovation takes place within the social domain and the possibilities for doing so successfully. Of course, insight is only valuable when it leads to action.
